Palestine 36 almost didn’t happen.

In our latest episode, Billy Howle reveals how the film was originally set to be shot in Palestine—until October 2023 changed everything. The entire production was forced to relocate to Jordan, where a village had to be rebuilt from scratch in the desert.

But even there, the reality of the region was impossible to ignore.

From rockets over Amman to crew members being detained, the experience blurred the line between filmmaking and the world it was trying to portray. What began as a role became something far more personal.

Billy even traveled to Palestine himself, witnessing firsthand the proximity of the violence and the weight of the story he was helping to tell.
