The latest 2022 update of Metro Manila Skyway project
President Duterte’s led the formal opening of the South Luzon Expressway or (S-lex) Elevated Extension Project, at the Alabang Northbound Entry in Alabang, Muntinlupa City On February 15, with the aim to promote greater mobility and contribute to the safe reopening of economic activities in Metro Manila.
Directly linked to the Skyway System, the 14-billion-peso initiative is designed to ease traffic congestion in the southern portion of Metro Manila, particularly in South Luzon expressway, where traffic could stretch up to 10 kilometers during peak hours due to the bottleneck traffic in Alabang viaduct. The Skyway extension measures 4 kilometers starting from Susana Heights in Muntinlupa City, to Sucat in Parañaque City and providing motorists a direct access to Skyway 1, 2, and 3.
Motorist had been provided relief, and seen a major improvement, in the traffic situation during the soft opening of the southbound of S-lex Extension last December 2021. With both the southbound and northbound section of the S-lex Extension now fully operational, travel to and from the south is easier and faster than ever. Together, the northbound and southbound lanes of the SLEX Elevated Extension project can accommodate 200,000 cars per day.
Metro Manila Skyway, is an elevated expressway in Metro Manila, linking the Northern and Southern portion of the National Capital Region. It is the first fully grade-separated highway in the Philippines, and one of the longest elevated highways in the world, with a total length of more than 42 Kilometers. Beating other Southeast Asia’s expressways like Sungai Besi Ulu-Klang Elevated Expressway of Malaysia, and Cikampek Elevated Toll Road of Indonesia.
From the onset of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, “mobility and connectivity” is its topmost priority, as a foundation of a strong economy. With the construction of Skyway stage 3 project, is a game-changing development that ushers a turning point for Philippines economic growth.
Metro Manila skyway stage 3, is one of the 25 projects aims to decongest Edsa. In 2020, two big time ticket projects under Edsa Decongestion Masterplan were also completed. First, the N-lex Harbor Link Segment 10, a 5.58-kilometer 6 lane divided elevated expressway, utilizing the PNR railroad tracks connecting Mc Arthur Highways, C3 road in Caloocan and Malabon. Second, the N-lex Harbor Link R10 exit ramp, a 2.6-kilometer 4 lane elevated ramp, which connect the Cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Valenzuela to Manila. Other projects are the BGC-Ortigas Link Bridges., the N-lex S-lex Connector, the Pantaleon-Estrella’s Bridge, Binondo-Intramouros Bridge, Lawton Avenue Widening, The Katipunan Extension, and Laguna Lake expressway, among others.
