Αυτόματο πότισμα δίχως ρεύμα - How to make an automatic watering system WITHOUT ELECTRICITY

You'll need :
- A water tank
- A floater device, (the traditional ball float, not the newer type with auto stop)
- a piece of half inch pipe with a 90 degree elbow
- fittings and connectors to fit the pipe and the floater to the tank
- a water tap for filling the tank
- hoses and fittings to direct your watering system.

Take the half inch pipe, connect the elbow and the proper fitting, and attach it to the side of the tank as shown on the video. On this pipe, you will connect your hose to the watering system of your choice.
Placing this pipe all the way to the bottom of the tank is essential, so as to create a siphon effect when the water level rises higher than the 90 degree elbow. What we need to achieve is to siphon all the water out of the tank. This means that the rest of the pipe outside of the tank, will need to be lower than the tank. So effectively, we can position our tank on the top of our house.

The position of the floater relative to the elbow is what will determine the point where the water will start flowing into the pipe, and outside the tank.

So next, connect the floater at the same hight as the siphon pipe.
NOTE: The floater must be connecter upside down. That's the trick to begin filling the tank faster and initiate the siphon effect.

Connect the hoses to the filling tap and the floater. Turn on the water supply from your outlet, supplying those two devices: tap and floater.

Open the tap to achieve the filling rate of your choice. For instance, if you want the tank to fill up in 24 hours, you'll have to open the tap up to a certain point, if you need it to fill up faster, you'll open the tap a bit more. That all depends on your needs.

As long as the water level is lower than the ball of the floater, the floater valve will remain closed.
When the tank fills up to the point where it starts raising the ball float, it will open up the floater valve, and more water will start entering the tank fast. That stream of water will start raising the water level faster than the tap. This in turn will raise the water level higher than the elbow, and this in turn will result in water flowing outside the tank from the siphon pipe.

The flow rate of the siphon pipe needs to be more than the flow rate of the floater, so as to be able to lower the water level faster than the floater can fill it up. This means that the water level will start going down faster than the floater can supply, and eventually it will reach a point where the ball will be suspended in the air, and the float valve will close, stoping the massive flow of water in the tank. At that point, all the water that will be supplied will be from the tap. And that is a slow flow rate.

Regarding the rest of the water : it will surely flow outside the tank due to the siphon effect we've createrd earlier, resulting in an empty tank that will start filling up again from the main supply tap, starting the cycle all over again.
Instead of a simple wall tap, you can install any other water supply method you like, as long as it allows regulation of the flow rate.
Also, you must regulate the floater to open up around a centimeter lower than the siphon pipe. That needs to be tested according to your needs and prefferances.
