Grace disappeared on 1 December 2018, the eve of her 22nd birthday, after meeting Jesse Kempson on the dating app Tinder.

She was str*ngled to death in Kempson's apartment at the CityLife Hotel. Kempson then purchased a suitcase, placed her body inside, and buried it in a shallow grave in the Waitākere Ranges.

In November 2019, a jury rejected Kempson's claim that Grace died accidentally during consensual "rough s*x" and found him guilty of murder.

In February 2020, Kempson was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of 17 years.
Her mother, Gillian Millane, and cousin, Hannah O'Callaghan, founded Love Grace, a charity that fills donated handbags with toiletries for victims of domestic violence.
