What does it mean to live beside the ocean yet lack access to basic opportunities?

To commemorate World Ocean Day 2026, adolescent girls from Tomaro Community, a coastal community in Lagos State, Nigeria, share their hopes, challenges, and vision for a better future in this powerful advocacy film: Tomaro Community Deserves More.

Produced in partnership with the Center for Gender Economics in Africa (CGE Africa), the film highlights the realities faced by many coastal communities, including limited access to quality education, safe transportation, economic opportunities, and essential social services.

As the world celebrates the ocean and the promise of the blue economy, this film reminds us that sustainable oceans depend on thriving coastal communities.

Watch. Share. Amplify their voices.

Together, let's advocate for greater investment in coastal communities, especially for girls, women, and young people whose futures are closely connected to the health and sustainability of our oceans.

🌊 Happy World Ocean Day 2026!
