Major development from Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh as the Delhi High Court has ordered action against more than 140 buildings linked to illegal construction and encroachment.

Residents and occupants have been directed to vacate the premises by May 30, ahead of further action by authorities. The move has raised concerns over rehabilitation, notices, and the impact on families and local businesses.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said the illegal structures on Road No. 320 have long caused traffic congestion in the area, which houses major hospitals, educational institutions, and police establishments. She added that a new underpass connecting traffic from Azadpur to the Outer Ring Road near Mukarba Chowk will help ease movement once the encroachments are removed.

Gupta said the encroachments on government land, made during the previous government’s tenure, caused long-term traffic disruption.

The issue has sparked debate over urban development, accountability, and public inconvenience.
