Anne Keast Butler GCHQ Annual Lecture

Did you catch Anne Keast-Butler's (Director of GCHQ) annual talk at Bletchley Park this week? Super interesting for those in the UK. Here's a quick summary of what I thought was most insightful...

❗ "The ground beneath our feet is shifting, and shifting fast", and requires a united effort from its citizens. Cyber needs to be a board level organisational survivability issue with "utmost urgency." We have enormous potential to do well when we harness our incredible minds, develop technology, and collaborate. But we must act now. We must be aware of what's at stake, who is threatening us, and be prepared to defend. There are steps we can take, so we are "not walking out onto the frontline without armour."

❗ AI is reshaping the threat landscape at speed. China is now a tech superpower with sophisticated cyber, intelligence and military capabilities.

❗ Russia is going backwards on the battlefield in terms of the Ukraine war, having lost 500,000 soldiers since that war started. Despite this, it is scaling up it's daily hybrid war activity against the UK and Europe. It continues to challenge our national security by attacking our critical cables and pipelines in and around British waters, smuggling Western tech, assassinations, and countless sabotage and cyber efforts. It, like China is heavily investing in space to support both peace and war ambitions.

❗ The quantum timeline has changed. Sensing is already available, and organisations must act now so they are not caught off guard.

Keen to hear your thoughts on what she said (link to her speech in the comments).
