Eight Tajikistan nationals with suspected ties to the Islamic State group, or ISIS, have been arrested on immigration charges in multiple U.S. cities, according to the Associated Press. The individuals, whose arrest took place in New York, Philadelphia and Los Angeles in recent days, entered the U.S. through the southern border last year. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement made the arrests in conjunction with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security issued a statement confirming the immigration-related arrests of “several non-citizens” but did not detail specifics. The agencies noted that the U.S. has been in a “heightened threat environment.”
