Connecting to WinRM from Linux with Evil-WinRM (NTLM & Kerberos) | Complete Setup & Troubleshooting
In this video, I demonstrate how to connect to Windows Remote Management (WinRM) from a Linux system using both NTLM and Kerberos authentication methods.
We explore multiple tools, including:
Evil-WinRM (Ruby-based) and Python alternative, useful when one version doesn’t work as expected in certain environments
Covered in the video:
How to use NTLM authentication with Evil-WinRM
How to properly configure your Linux environment to support Kerberos authentication
Required system setup:
Install the krb5-user package
Add the target host to your /etc/hosts file
Configure your krb5.conf file for the target domain
Ensure time synchronization between the Linux host and the target domain (critical for Kerberos)
I also explain the necessary group membership for WinRM access — users must be in the Remote Management Users group or have administrative privileges.
This guide is helpful for red teamers, pentesters, and sysadmins who need to interact with WinRM from a Linux box in both lab and real-world environments.
