Patek Philippe is one of the most well known luxury watch brands on Earth, and arguably their most iconic model is the Nautilus, a timepiece released by legendary watch designer Gerald Genta. The goal of the piece was to adjust the perception of what could make a watch "luxurious."

Their newest reference of the Nautilus, the 5711, is one that didn't start out as the rarity that it has since become. In fact, when it was first released, not only were they readily available, but you could often secure one at a discount, sometimes into the low $20,000 range. Now, however, they trade significantly higher, often higher than $50,000, and is nearly impossible to get your hands on. So is it worth it?

In material? Absolutely. At 40mm in diameter, and just over 8mm thick, the watch wears impressively well. It's design is iconic, its brand tremendously well regarded and important, and its movement, an in-house automatic winding caliber, it a beauty to behold. But does that make it worth upwards of $50k??? That, ultimately, is your call, watch geeks.
