Few people have heard of the Battle of Adyar. It was a relatively small engagement, after all, pitting a local nawab's forces against a few hundred French-trained soldiers outside of Madras. Might one, however, be able to argue that this skirmish was actually one of the most important battles of the last five hundred years?
