Description: A* (A-Star) Search is a widely used informed search algorithm in Artificial Intelligence for finding the shortest and most cost-effective path between a start node and a goal node. It combines the advantages of Uniform Cost Search and Greedy Best-First Search by considering both the actual cost from the start node and the estimated cost to the goal.
The evaluation function used in A* Search is:
f(n) = g(n) + h(n)
where:
g(n) = Actual cost from the start node to node n
h(n) = Heuristic estimate of the cost from node n to the goal
f(n) = Estimated total cost of the solution path through node n
A* Search is complete and optimal when the heuristic function is admissible and consistent. It is extensively used in robotics, route planning, GPS navigation systems, game development, and pathfinding applications.
