From the earliest days of Rock and Roll, death has shadowed our biggest guitar heroes. But while far too many legends of rock have left us far too early, there have been many more who miraculously escaped near death experiences while out on the road doing what they love.

From Eric Clapton, David Bowie, and Slash to James Hetfield, Frank Zappa, and Keith Richards, the members of rock royalty who have almost perished while trying to entertain us is long and terrifying. Taylor Hawkins, Jonathan Davis, and Patti Smith are just a few more lucky survivors among the many rock stars who almost died on tour.
