Q&A With Joey Burns (Calexico)
Given MAGNET's love for all things Calexico, dating back to when Joey Burns and John Convertino first started out a quarter century ago, the band's few forays into festive music have long been part of our annual Christmastime playlists. So when we heard Burns, Convertino and Co. were making a holiday album, we knew that even if Santa leaves us MAGA-shaped coal this year, we'll also be receiving a musical gift that'll keep on giving for years to come. Mixing originals and covers, "Seasonal Shift" (Anti-) is a multicultural yuletide celebration with something for everyone, even your long-distance relatives who only listen to Tom Petty. See, 2020 wasn't all bad. Happy X-mask, Calexico. Trump is over.
