Harley Benton kit Telecaster vs Reloved Guitars partscaster Tele with CV neck

•• Warning - long and slightly confused video ahead lol. Not intended for entertainment. For some reason, it's very hard editing together the sounds from 4 different guitars :-) **

Quick overview of the video's contents:

• Tele 1 and Tele 2 sounds (Clean & Distorted)
• LP copy 1 and LP copy 2 sounds (one is Kay LP and the other Epiphone LP Standard)
• Review of the two Teles
• Review of the Epiphone & Kay (and comparison to Rally GL300)

In this video I'm attempting to compare the tone of two different pairs of guitars. The first pair are my two recently-built telecasters:

• Reloved-built partscaster Tele with re-fretted Classic Vibe neck, pine body and Wilkinson / Vanson hardware

• Harley Benton DIY kit T-style guitar (with upgraded Tone Rider pickups)

I try to give an idea of these two guitars 'blind' to let you guess which pickups you think you're hearing. On the Teles, one set is ToneRider, the other is Wilkinson. See if you can tell the two apart. Sadly my bad playing probably doesn't help.

The next pair of guitars are:

• Re-vamped Kay 'K-31' Les Paul copy with upgraded tuners, wiring and Rally pickups

• Epiphone Les Paul Standard fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups.

That should be an easy one to tell which is which...right?

The second half of the video I spend talking through the good / bad points of each guitar, comparing the Teles to each other and the same for the Les Paul copies.

My conclusion? I think I'll probably keep the CV-necked Tele and sell the HB kit one.

And as for the Epiphone Les Paul Standard (with the Seymour Duncans)? I think it's marginally better built than the Vintage V100s I've worked on, the finish is a little better (and prettier). With decent pickups fitted I think it runs close to my Rally GL300 but my Rally still has a better action and I thought the stock pickups it came with are awesome.

Where did the Kay come in the LP race. Hard to say but played through Roland Cube 80s 'Classic' model (with a fair bit of gain) I think the Rally pickups in the Kay K-30 performed better than the Seymour Duncans in the Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

I'd like to do this with a better audio set up and a good player to test the tones to their limits, but this video was prompted by a few people asking how I felt the Epiphone Les Paul copies performed against the Vintage V100s in particular.

I'll be setting up the Epiphone in this video shortly and that will give me a better idea of what it's like. I'd REALLY like to find that the neck is more responsive to adjustment, more evenly curved and the bridge better positioned than many of the V100s I've set up. Too many times on those guitars I've had to remove the bridge to turn around the bass saddles in order to eke out a couple more mm of intonation room. Too many times to be a co-incidence, is what I think.
