Modular Product Design for Circularity: Principles, Strategies, and Case Studies
Course 2 | Module 1 | Chapter 2
Welcome to KODECET — Knowledge Development for Circular Economy Transition.
KODECET is an international Erasmus+ funded project connecting universities and students across Finland, India, Thailand, and Austria. Together, we’re building skills, knowledge, and real-world experience for a more sustainable, circular future. Through KODECET, students from Europe and Asia learn, and innovate across cultures — gaining global skills that matter in today’s connected world.
The project is implemented by the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE), University of Jyväskylä, in collaboration with consortium partners FH JOANNEUM (Austria), BIRLA Institute of Management Technology - BIMTECH (India), Nirma University (India), Prince of Songkla University (Thailand), and Payap University (Thailand).
As part of KODECET, we’ve created four free digital learning centres. Students can join any centre, learn online, and earn certification — completely free. You can explore the digital centres at BIRLA Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), Nirma University, Prince of Songkla University, and Payap University — links are in the description below.

Chapter 2 Modular Product Design for Circularity
This chapter will examine how modular product design acts as a foundational strategy for advancing circular economy goals. It focuses on the practical and theoretical tools that enable businesses to create products that are repairable, upgradeable, and recyclable. By analyzing material choices, lifecycle impacts, and innovative design techniques, students will learn to develop modular solutions that align with circular business strategies.
