U.S. to impose visa restrictions on Huawei, employees of other Chinese tech companies
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on Wednesday that the State Department would impose visa restrictions on employees of Chinese technology companies, including Huawei “that provide material support to regimes engaging in human rights violations and abuses.”
Pompeo also criticized China for its handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic. He said Wednesday he’s “confident” a World Health Organization (WHO) investigation into the origins of the novel coronavirus in China will be “white-washed,” accusing China of destroying samples and muzzling doctors who have been prepared to speak about the virus.
The Secretary of State also responded to reports that China and Iran have been quietly drafting a military and trade partnership in order for China to sell arms to the Iranian government once the U.N. arms embargo ends in October, warning other countries that “the risk is real.”
