Washington State criminal defense attorney Ryan Witt covers the controversial topic - what is Washington State's vehicular pursuit (or lack thereof) law?
There are really only two situations where police can give chase. (1) when a person has committed or is committing a violent offense or a sex offense, and (2) when there is reasonable suspicion that a person in the vehicle has committed or is committing the crime of driving under the influence (or DUI). The rules comes from RCW 10.116.060.

There is currently a push from Police Chiefs, Mayors and Prosecuting Attorneys to repeal this 2021 law. Is a person's knowledge that police can't chase them for a property crime a contributing factor to the crime spike in Washington?
