Witnesses describe man in crisis before fatal Las Vegas police shooting

Witnesses who knew a man killed by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers Wednesday said he appeared to be facing significant challenges in the weeks leading up to the shooting, raising questions about whether the encounter stemmed from a mental health crisis.

Police said officers responded around 12:25 p.m. to reports of a man shooting into traffic near East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Sloan Lane. According to Metro, the man refused commands to drop his weapon and fired toward officers. Officers returned fire, killing him.
