How I memorize piano music | Jocelyn Swigger | TEDxGettysburgCollege

Music and science: one and the same? Concert pianist Jocelyn Swigger illustrates the behind-the-scenes process of memorizing at the piano, revealing surprising parallels between practicing music and science.

Jocelyn Swigger is Associate Professor of Music at the Sunderman Conservatory of Gettysburg College. She has also taught at Fort Lewis College, the Hochstein Music School, and in Paraguay on a Fulbright grant, and played as accompanist for the Manhattan School of Music, the Castleman Quartet Program, the Boys Choir of Harlem, and the Juilliard School. She holds undergraduate degrees from Oberlin College and Oberlin Conservatory, and master’s and doctoral degrees from the Eastman School of Music. Her principal piano teachers are Rebecca Penneys and Evelyne Brancart.

She is a Con Brio Recordings Artist. Her current projects are learning all of Chopin’s etudes and incorporating improvisation into her concert performances. More information at: http://jocelynswigger.com
