Is "invisible" technology safer? This study of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 accidents reveals a catastrophic failure of "automation transparency". Boeing intentionally designed the MCAS system with a "seeing-through" approach, aiming to make the software so seamless it appeared invisible to pilots. But when sensors failed, this "invisible" tech became a lethal "black box" that pilots couldn't understand or override in time. While "seeing-into" transparency (revealing what the system is doing, how, and why) can cause information overload, the alternative, as Boeing proved, can be disastrous...
