"Bastille" was the result of tasking myself with creating a 3D environment in under two weeks. With my previous work, I was allocated a month or more to get everything together and finalize assets within a scene of my design. For this specific art test I wanted to test my modeling, texturing, and arrangement abilities while on a time crunch. My workflow greatly improved over the course of this level creation, as I realized how important sketching out a concept can really be. I was going through some old concepts I had made a while ago, and this one popped out to me most due to how well I could mentally visualize it all. So, after sketching the rough layout on a piece of paper, I got to work. My process is straight-forward and productive; I begin all of my levels by gray blocking the environment in Unreal Engine. Once this is complete and to scale, I begin exporting the gray blocks into Maya. From here, I begin modeling and texturing assets one-by-one. Eventually, I fill the scene up with enough assets to get a feel of how I want the architecture to be textured. Once all assets are completed and placed within the scene, the final arrangement can be worked out- and the painstaking process of post processing and lighting begins. After it is all said and done, the final result should always be something I am proud of as the artist. After nearly two weeks, I have created a presentable version of my original concept- 'Bastille'! I plan on exploring and developing this level further in the future.
