What is API? Most of us don’t know what it is!

If you’ve heard the word API a hundred times but still don’t fully understand what it means this video is for you.

In 60 seconds I break down exactly what an API is, how it works, and why every single app you’ve ever used depends on one.

Here’s the simple version. When you go to a restaurant, you don’t walk into the kitchen and cook your own food. You tell the waiter what you want, the waiter tells the kitchen, and the food comes back to your table. An API is the waiter. Your app is you. Your database is the kitchen.

And every action any app takes no matter how complex comes down to just four things. Create, Read, Update, Delete. That’s it. Every feature, every button, every screen in every app you’ve ever used is just one of these four actions happening under the hood.

For Relvig the AI video analysis app I’m building from scratch here’s what that looks like in practice. When you upload a video, that’s Create. When you view your past analyses, that’s Read. When you change your goal from viral growth to sales conversion, that’s Update. When you delete an old analysis, that’s Delete.

And here’s the part that matters most for anyone vibe coding with Claude. When you prompt Claude to save your data, fetch your results, or update your profile Claude is writing API routes for you automatically. You don’t need to build them yourself. But understanding what’s happening underneath makes you a better builder. You catch mistakes faster. You explain what you want more clearly. Claude gives you better, cleaner code.
