An accident on the road is a wake-up call that every rider hopes to avoid, but it’s also an opportunity to learn. After experiencing a recent incident on the Mission Bay Loop involving a commercial vehicle’s Aerodynamic Bow Wave, @SmirnoffUS I was left with more than just a "Death Wobble"—I had a serious look at the gaps in my existing safety gear. @BernHelmetsOfficial
THE INJURY AND THE CATALYST:
The physics of that moment resulted in a significant impact that highlighted the vulnerabilities of my standard cycling helmet, particularly regarding frontal lobe protection. That experience sent me straight into research mode. I didn't just want a "new" helmet; I wanted a setup designed to handle the specific physics of e-bike riding and road interactions.
WHY THE BERN HUDSON MIPS?
My research led me to a style of helmet I hadn't considered before. The Bern Hudson stood out for several key reasons:
1.NTA 8776 Certification: Rated specifically for e-bike speeds up to 28 mph.
2.Extended Coverage: A design that offers more substantial protection for the temples and the back of the head compared to traditional "high-on-head" road helmets.
3.MIPS Technology: An integrated slip-plane layer designed to reduce rotational forces during an impact.
4.Integrated Safety: Features like the click-mount rear light and the Compass Fit system for a secure, custom feel.
