Soham Dave at Lakmé Fashion Week 2018 | The Usha Silai Project

The Usha Silai Project Show was organised by Usha International in collaboration with IMG Reliance, putting forward a powerful and innovative fashion concept ‘#reimaginefashion’ at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2018. The project aimed to empower rural women with skills and resources required to create clothes and accessories that can be used in the fashion industry.

We collaborated with the Dholka cluster of Gujarat on the theme ‘The Black Machine’ inspired by Usha’s black lockstitch machine used profusely across the country for stitching. The collection showcased color stories in black and kora exploring different ‘Silai’ techniques as surface details in cottons and chanderi. The focus was on making a collection as locally as possible and incorporating sustainable techniques in production.
