Rekha has been one of the most admired and loved actresses of her time and her presence exudes the charm of a superstar even today. From the beginning of her career in 1970 with Saawan Bhandon, Rekha stepped up as a lead heroine and gradually treaded on her path to superstardom.

Despite her strong presence in the movies, it was only in 1978 that she was nominated for a Filmfare Award for her role in Ghar. She finally took her first ever Black Lady home for Khoobsurat in 1980. A revelation in Hindi cinema, she was the ultimate epitome of grace on screen. Her quiet yet powerful portrayal of women in films like Silsila, Muqadaar Ka Sikander, Jeevan Dhara made her the most sought after actresses of the ‘80s. She then revolutionised the face of the heroine with Umrao Jaan where she played a courtesan and the role still remains her most appreciated one so far.

With three Filmfare Awards to her name, she is an icon we just can’t get enough of. Celebrating her limitless career and the powerful force she is, Filmfare honored her with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003. She accepted it with much grace and delivered a beautiful speech, accommodating her boundless career within a few minutes.
