Epic Life of Saint Cecilia

This video reconstructs the story of Saint Cecilia, partly using original human artworks rendered with 3D creation software (DAZ3D). It is based on mythological facts, but the images are the pure result of the imagination of the designer who tried to give this story an epic twist.

This story took place in the city of Rome, sometime around 200 AD at a time when the Roman empire was persecuting the christians. Cecilia was a pious young Christian woman who prayed night and day, asking the Lord to preserve her virginity. However, she was engaged to a young man named Valerian.

On her wedding day, when Cecilia found herself alone with her fiancé in the silence of her room, she said "Know that I have for lover an angel of God, and that my lover is jealous of my body. If he learned that, even slightly, you touched me with an impure love, at once he would strike you."

"If you want me to believe you, let me see this lover!" And Cecilia answered: "you must believe in the true God and promise to be baptized. Go to the Apian Way! There you will see an old man who will purify you."

The young man went to the Appian Way in search of the old man. Suddenly, an old man appeared, in a flash of smoke Valerian, frightened, threw himself on the groundbut the old man picked him up and spoke to him "One God, one faith, one baptism ! do you still doubt ? Valerian replied, "There is nothing that I believe in more!" And so he was baptized." When he returned home, he saw the angel bringing gifts: crowns of flowers and the palms of martyrdom.

As new child of the Faith Valerian distributed rich alms and buried the bodies of martyrs. But he was soon denounced to the prefect, Turcius Almachius, who to confound him gave him the order to sacrifice to a pagan deity. And as he refused, acknowledging his Christian faith, he was condemned to death and beheaded.

Almachius inquired about the property left by Valerian and, discovering that his wife was a christian, he ordered her to sacrifice to idols. But as she refused, Almachius, furious sent her back home, where, day and night, he ordered that she be immersed in a bath of boiling water. But she stayed there as if in a cool place, and not even a drop of sweat appeared on her. The prefect Turcius Almachius ordered then that an executioner went there and beheads her.

The executioner went to Cecilia's housefound her in the hot bath and struck her. He struck her with three blows without being able to decapitate her, and left her bleeding with her head half detached. She survived three days, and recommended that a church be consecrated on the site of the house where she died.
