Early Spring Planting Guide (What We're Planting and NOT Planting, Now)

This week we’re giving you some farm and personal updates as we move through the week of our last frost date.

We’re out in the beds, checking soil, getting things in the ground, and walking through what’s happening right now on the farm.

Most people wait until after the last frost to start planting.

But there’s a stretch right before that date where a lot of crops go in.

So we go bed to bed and show what’s getting planted this week.

Onions going in early so they have time to build leaves.
Potatoes into loose soil once temps come up.
Strawberries set right at the crown.
Peas going in while the soil is still cool with a trellis ready.

Then we stop and look at what’s not going in yet.

Okra.
Melons.
Pumpkins.

Soil’s still cool for those.

Inside, tomatoes and peppers are getting started before they move out.

This whole week really comes down to what the soil feels like when you’re standing in it and what we have going on at our place.

Drop your growing zone and what you’ve got going in the ground this week.
