Good Riddance was written by Billie Joe Armstrong, the lead singer of Green Day for the bands fifth album Nimrod (1997). It was originally written 3 years earlier before the release of the Green Day's third album Dookie (1994). The song is one of the most popular from the band, selling over 2.6 million digital copies to date. Good Riddance has become a staple at prom dances and graduations around the world, evoking nostalgia with its lyrics: even Billie Joe admitted that the lyrics made sense in this way.
