Why Secret Identities Make No Sense

Secret identities are supposed to protect superheroes.

Which is adorable, because Lois Lane gets kidnapped every fiscal quarter, Aunt May has been dragged into Peter’s problems since the Bronze Age, and MJ has spent half her screen time falling from extremely symbolic heights.

So…. if they’re not meant to protect like the hero… or the people around them…. why does a fursuit make logical sense where the rest does not?
