BUILDING A LOADED 128ci FATBOB
Using S&S Cylinders, APE Pistons, Screamin' Eagle CNC Ported heads with S&S Roller Rockers, CR515 Camshaft from APE, BAKER Compensator & a TRASK Clutch Basket. This Fatbob is loaded with top quality parts.
The customer had selected & purchased his parts & brought them to me for installation. Unfortunately, the pistons were for a 124ci combo & not a 128ci combo. Leading to a change in components. If you're wondering how I missed seeing the label on the box saying 124ci then you're not alone! I want to know how I missed it too.
I think what has happened is, when the pistons arrived we were all keen to check out the teflon & ceramic coatings on them it was missed in the excitement. Obviously I should have checked more thoroughly but I fell victim to assuming it was all ok.
Luckily I always check that all engines I build roll over prior to & after the valve train is installed.
The TRASK Clutch basket was a great addition to the build & easy to fit.
Once the OEM Clutch assembly is removed & disassembled you simply drill out the rivets holding the OEM basket to the ring gear, then further drill out the ring gear holes to accommodate the larger diameter bolts that hold it in place over the rivets.
The remaining OEM components of the clutch assembly fit straight in with no issues whatsoever.
The BAKER Compensator assembly is different from all the others out there & being the first one I've fitted, I have no opinion on it as yet.
The run-out was sitting just over 5thou & the recommended max from S&S is 5 thou so it was decided to not install it & keep running the OEM pump & plate which is absolutely fine to run.
It has been in there from day 1 & has worn with the run-out, plus the Harley-Davidson service limit is 12thou so we are still in spec.
