Arabic: The journey of 50 years in the United Nations

On December 18, 1973, the United Nations proclaimed Arabic language as one of its six official languages. This recognition comes from UNESCO’s profound belief in the importance of multilingualism as a means for effective communication and understanding, ensuring the best representation of Arabic-speaking countries within the international community.
Given UNESCO's recognition of the cultural and historical importance of the Arabic language and its commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity, the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to strengthen Arabic Language in UNESCO programme has initiated various projects and initiatives to promote the Arabic language by developing cutting-edge knowledge resources in the Arabic language, promoting the Arabic language, and contributing to enhancing social cohesion and inclusion between peoples.

العربية: رحلة خمسين عاماً فِي الأمم المتحدة
اعتمدت الأمم المتحدة، في 18 كانون الأول/ديسمبر من عام 1973، اللغة العربية كواحدة من لغاتها الرسمية الست. ويأتي هذا الاعتماد انطلاقاً من إيمان اليونسكو بأهمية التعددية اللغوية كوسيلة فعالة للتواصل والتفاهم، وضمان التمثيل الأفضل للدول الناطقة باللغة العربية داخل المجتمع الدولي.
نظراً لإدراك اليونسكو الأهمية الثقافية والتاريخية للغة العربية والتزامها بالتنوع الثقافي والشمولية، نفذ برنامج الأمير سلطان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود لدعم اللغة العربية التابع لليونسكو برامج ومبادرات مختلفة لتعزيز اللغة العربية عبر إنشاء موارد معرفية متطورة باللغة العربية ودعم نشر اللغة العربية والمساهمة في تعزيز التماسك الاجتماعي والاندماج بين الشعوب.
