John Singer Sargent Value Studies

In this video I make two black and white value studies of Sargent's Venetian Interior, one in charcoal and one in oil, to learn more about how Sargent achieved such a strong tonal framework in his art.

Materials are: 140lb watercolor paper, Generals charcoal pencils, paper stumps, canvas board, Ivory black, titanium white, linseed oil, bristle and nylon brushes.
