ADF now has a 'much reduced' tactical mobility on the battlefield
ASPI Senior Analyst Malcolm Davis says in the interim, the Army now has a “much reduced” tactical mobility on the battlefield in terms of aviation capability.
Australia’s Taipan helicopters will be permanently retired 15 months early.
This comes after a Taipan chopper crashed into waters off the Whitsundays, a tragic accident that took the lives of four of Australia’s airmen.
“The right decision was made in the sense that there was no way you were going to fly these aircraft whilst … an investigation was underway,” Mr Davis told Sky News host Amanda Stoker.
“Which was going to last until the retirement date for the aircraft.
“The challenge, of course, is that we need to fill a capability gap.”
