Plymouth City Council Armada Way trees legal battle

Plymouth City Council is attempting to end the legal battle over the Armada Way trees before it gets to court. The authority will make an application directly to the High Court asking it to consider stopping the judicial review brought by protesters.

The newly-elected Labour council said the proceedings are now “academic” because it has sent the £12.7m scheme back to the drawing board. But the action group Save the Trees of Armada Way (Straw) accused the council of “political point scoring” and said the judicial review was started to determine whether the authority acted legally when it ordered the destruction of 129 trees in March.
