The One Legged Man: Caring For A Diabetic Amputee

#toenails #dcfootdoctor #podiatry

A patient who I have not seen in two years comes in for diabetic foot care. Four years ago his right leg was amputated after a foot injury. His toenails are thickened and brittle. The nail on the second has curved into his big toe as well as nearly creating a wound on the same toe. His toes are trimmed and filed. Nail samples are sent to the lab for fungal identification for future treatment. Most importantly we discuss his need to be seen regularly to prevent complications in his left leg.
