Your Eye Doctor Says You Have TOBACCO DUST In Your Eye? #Floaters #RetinalTear #EyeHealth

Ever wondered when floaters can actually be serious?

As we age, the gel inside the eye slowly peels away from the retina — a normal process called a posterior vitreous detachment (PVD).

Most of the time this only causes harmless floaters.

But occasionally the vitreous can pull hard enough to tear the retina.

When this happens, tiny pigment cells and blood can spill into the eye. Eye doctors sometimes describe this as “tobacco dust”.

This can be an important warning sign of a retinal tear or even a retinal detachment.

Symptoms to watch for:
• Sudden increase in floaters
• Flashing lights
• A dark curtain or shadow in your vision

These symptoms should be assessed urgently.
