The Stellar Blade 2 Drama Proves We Learned NOTHING

Why are female characters from Asian games and media often criticized in ways that Western women with similar body types are not?

In this video, I explore what I believe is a major double standard in modern media discourse. Characters like Eve from Stellar Blade, Evie from the new Stellar Blade: Blood Rain trailer, and Lisa from BLACKPINK are frequently described as "unrealistic," "male fantasy," or "problematic" despite the existence of countless real women in both Asia and the West who share similar physical features.

At the same time, actresses and celebrities such as Anya Taylor-Joy, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo are rarely subjected to the same scrutiny when discussing their appearances. This raises an important question: are people evaluating the bodies themselves, or are they reacting differently because the women come from Asian media?

This discussion also examines something that is often ignored in these debates: populations are not identical. Different regions of the world have different average body compositions, beauty standards, fashion trends, and cultural influences. A body type that may seem uncommon in one country can be significantly more common in another. Yet many online conversations treat Western norms as the universal standard while dismissing Eastern representations as unrealistic or suspicious.

We'll discuss:
The controversy surrounding Stellar Blade and Eve
The reaction to Evie in the Blood Rain trailer
Lisa and BLACKPINK's place in global beauty discussions
Why "unrealistic" is often applied inconsistently
Cultural differences between Eastern and Western beauty standards
The tendency to view Asian media through a more skeptical lens
Whether criticism is actually about body types—or about where those body types are coming from

This is not a video arguing that every criticism of Asian media is racist or malicious. It is an examination of how assumptions, cultural expectations, and media narratives can create different standards for similar people.

What do you think?

Are Asian women and Asian female characters judged differently than their Western counterparts?
