Marshals, or Marshalls, have always been a a part of racing, and they will continue to be a mainstay for without them, racing would be pandemonium. They clear cars, wave flags to help drivers on track, act as first responders to incidents, and much more, almost always on a voluntary basis. Unfortunately, humans make mistakes, and so do track marshalls. Whether it's being aggrivated or the opposite, too-relaxed, not waving flags, falling, etc., it is normally caught on television.
