The Harry Potter series is full of intense and sometimes scary onscreen moments, but just how dangerous were things behind the scenes? It turns out things were very dangerous, with multiple cast members like Matthew Lewis, Tom Felton and Rupert Grint ending up with a few injuries. Movie magic takes some serious work on set, so the cast had to do things like climb toppling towers of furniture in the Room of Requirement, ride broomsticks hooked up to rigs that really moved, and Daniel Radcliffe even had to film one “Goblet of Fire” scene at the bottom of a 20-foot deep tank of water.
Stunt professionals were on set to pull off some amazing scenes, like falling 55-feet to a mat on the floor after being faced by dementors, but the cast was also able to take on some scary stunts themselves. Emma Watson really swung around on one of the Whomping Willows’ branches and Daniel hung from a fake roof when he faced the Hungarian Horntail. But not everything went so smoothly-- at one point the Hogwarts set caught on fire, and Helena Bonham Carter accidentally took a cue from Bellatrix and injured a castmate with her wand. Filming the Quidditch scenes were also pretty dangerous-- especially when they had to film a crash landing. Are you ready to know how the cast and performers really felt about filming the series' most terrifying scenes and stunts? Then click play and let’s explore Harry Potter’s most dangerous moments to film.
