Rheumatoid Arthritis (गठिया वात): Its causes, symptoms, and treatment ।।

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissue especially joints, including those in the hands and feet. In severe cases, it attacks internal organs. In Rheumatoid arthritis an antigen antibody complex forms which circulates in different parts of the body through blood. RA affects articular cartilage, causing painful swelling. Over a long period of time, it can cause bone erosion and joint deformity.
In ayurveda rheumatoid arthritis is known as "Aamvata", a disease occurs due to toxins which arise from undigested food and mixed with vitiated Vata dosha. (आमेन सहितः वातः आमवातः।)
Treatment of Aamvata revolves around the correction of digestive issues, detoxification of body and then pacification of vitiated Vata dosha by ayurvedic herbs and therapies.
While in modern medications there is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, physiotherapy, and medication can help slow the disease's progression. Most cases can be managed with analgesics, corticosteroids, DMARDs and biologics.
