If the needle bar moves while winding the bobbin,
you probably forgot one important step.

Before winding,
loosen the clutch knob (stop motion screw) in the center of the handwheel.

This disconnects the drive system so:

✔ the needle bar won’t move
✔ unnecessary wear is reduced
✔ bobbin winding becomes smoother

A classic feature found on many vintage Singer machines.

And don’t forget —
tighten the clutch again after winding,
or the machine won’t sew properly.
