I have been working on the AI (artificial intelligence all last night and part today. I have managed to get the enemies moving around making them a hard target to shoot. They also reverse (usually) when they encounter a wall or immovable object. There is a problem with collision detection for the raptors. It seemed like ever since I added the object for the underground stream, it has conflicted and the hit collision no longer works. Oh well I'll get around to fixing that. Still have to get my animation working.

Some of the newer features to the added AI layer includes a fright or flight response. So if an enemy hears a gun being fired they start to run away, otherwise they pursue you.

Does anybody have any other ideas of how I can beef up this AI? Having so much fun with it since I learned it the other day. I highly recommend if you are into Dark GDK programming to visit this channel below:

That guy is incredible and knows a lot about programming sophisticated concepts. Just by watching all of that tutorial series, I was able to finally almost completely grasp how the Dark Dungeons game operates and how to develop a game with incredible AI (artificial intelligence). It has paid off and I'm happy. It's always nice when you finally learn how to step up your programming ability. The only thing I can possibly foresee now is the development of making a more realistic game.

I can rant about this forever, but knowing how to create your own property settings for enemies in a game or even your player is highly beneficial. I added a new property setting also that tracks the distance between the bad guys and your player. This can vary depending on which enemy you approach.

Next on my agenda will be to figure out how to get animation added. There is a software tool called Dark Matter (created by the Game Creators) that includes some really cool models. That's where I found the raptor, amazon woman, zombie, etc. Each of them also has their own animation, but I haven't got that working yet. Going to invest more time to research this because I know it will pay off.

In the future, I will try to enhance this game even more. Currently I'm juggling some ideas about putting torches on the walls to light the inner passages. You can use lighting effects when a player is near an object (such as a torch) and illuminate that area alone.

Dark GDK is packed with all types of goodies. Did you know you can also include 3D sound? So if you are not near a growling monster you won't hear them until you get within their distance. There is also an addition of moving sound from the left to the right speaker. The Game Creators thought of everything.

If you want to get started in Dark GDK c++ game design then I have other videos on my channel that can help you. Be sure to check them out.

Finally keep learning and... watch out for hungry raptors!

Thanks for watching.
