The Queen's Christmas Speech 2020 | "Life must go on"

The Queen stressed that life must “go on” as she used her annual Christmas broadcast to praise scientists for giving Britain “hope in the new dawn”.

In a nod to the success of the vaccine, Her Majesty, 94, highlighted “the achievements of modern science” and paid particular tribute to frontline nurses.

She also spoke of her pride in the way the nation has responded to the coronavirus pandemic with a “quiet, indomitable spirit” as she urged positivity and focused on the good that has prevailed at the close of a devastating year.

The Queen referenced nursing pioneers such as Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale, who she said “shone a lamp of hope across the world” before adding: “Today, our frontline services still shine that lamp for us - supported by the amazing achievements of modern science - and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”

Urging positivity and focusing on the good that has prevailed at the close of a devastating year, The Queen said: "We continue to be inspired by the kindness of strangers and draw comfort that - even on the darkest nights - there is hope in the new dawn.”
