Flying Squirrel

Japanese dwarf flying squirrels aren’t currently endangered. In fact, they’re listed as a species of Least Concern, meaning their population is stable and not facing any immediate threat of extinction. They live in the forests of Honshu and Kyushu, Japan, and thrive in dense cedar and pine woodlands where they can nest and glide from tree to tree. That said, their safety isn’t guaranteed forever. Like many forest animals, they’re vulnerable to habitat loss—especially from deforestation, urban development, and climate change. If their environment starts disappearing, they could quickly find themselves at risk. So while they’re not in danger right now, their future still depends heavily on how well their forests are protected.
