Richard Diamond, Private Detective - The Stolen Purse Case

In the May 22, 1949 episode of Richard Diamond, Private Detective, the wise-cracking gumshoe takes a seemingly harmless job from a little old lady who hires him to find the owner of a plain black purse. Diamond soon discovers the bag is highly dangerous and everyone wants it badly enough to kill for it.

The high-stakes mystery unfolds as follows:

The Client: An elderly lady grifter approaches Diamond and hands him an unpresuming, seemingly valueless black purse to return to its owner.

The Trouble: Diamond quickly realizes that the purse is highly coveted by several mysterious individuals who are perfectly willing to commit murder to get their hands on it.

The Complication: Before he can figure out what is inside the purse, the fast-talking detective returns to his office only to find a freshly murdered body waiting for him, forcing him to do some fast talking with the police.

As with almost all episodes in this classic noir radio series, the thrilling, bullet-riddled investigation concludes with Diamond visiting his girlfriend, Helen Asher, to sing her a tune over the phone while playing the piano.
