Abandoned Old Grand Canyon Airport - Arizona

WW1 Army flyer Parker Van Zandt created a runway and built an aircraft hanger in 1927, starting the first commercial air tours over the majestic Grand Canyon. In April the following year, Scenic Airways flew the first paying passengers and operated until the early 1960s. It is said that Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh used these facilities.
Several cottages and a great house were also built during the airport's operation, housing guests and workers.
With the new Grand Canyon Airpot opening, Red Butte was closed and left to the elements. All that remains are remnants of a bustling airfield, cabins ruins and a bunker or food storage.
Due to vandals and the harsh weather over the years, the derelict area is deemed unsafe and posted with No Trespassing signs.
