Best of Venice, Italy - Murano & Burano | Sri Lankan Travel Couple | Sinhala Vlog (ENGLISH SUB)

We entered Venice from Santa Lucia railway station. A unique thing in the islands of Venice is that the residents travel everywhere by foot or boats. Like it was in the past, there is no use of vehicles for transportation in the islands. Therefore Venice is the largest urban area in Europe which is car-free. Venice is comprised of 118 small islands. All islands are located in Venetian lagoon. There are more than 400 bridges and 177 canals in Venice.

From Florence, we took a high speed train operated by Trenitalia railway company to reach Venice. This train was free for us since we had Eurail pass. If you need more information on Eurail pass, then you may refer to our video below (0.58 to 2.47 minutes).

Once you get down at Santa Lucia station, the only ways to reach other islands are by ferries and by foot. We bought a day-pass from the Vaporetto waterbus terminal which was close to the station. This pass was valid for 24 hours and cost 20 Euro per person.

Grand Canal is the main waterway in Venice. You can see a number of ancient mansions, churches and buildings of historical value when you traverse through Grand Canal. Rialto bridge was built in 1591.
Fondaco houses have been used by merchants of Venice in the past as their stores and residences. You can explore centuries old buildings in Venice such as Saint Mark's Basilica, Doge's Palace, San Giorgio church and Venetian Arsenal. A lot of structures in Venice have been built as per Venetian Gothic architecture.

We went to one of the main islands in Venice called "Burano" by waterbus. It is one hour journey by waterbus from main Venetian islands. It is covered by day-pass. In this fishing village of Burano, you can see beautifully painted houses in bright colours. Then we went to Murano island which has been world famous for "Murano Glass". Since 13th century, Murano's glassmakers have been able lead high-quality glassmaking for centuries. Some companies that own historical glass factories in Murano are some of the well known glass brands in today's world.
