Horology Raw & Uncut: Watchmaker & Guilloché artisan Joshua Shapiro

Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a very precise, intricate and
repetitive pattern is mechanically engraved into an underlying material via
engine turning, which uses a machine of the same name, also called a rose
engine lathe.

Today, only a handful of specialist guillocheur, outside of Switzerland,
make the watch dials following the traditional methods on vintage hand
operated rose-engines. Joshua Shapiro from California is one of those
artisans.
