Your Child Isn’t Misbehaving — This Is What Autism (ASD) Looks Like

What is autism? What is ASD? And what does Autism Spectrum Disorder actually look like in real life?

In this video, we break down what autism really is, beyond stereotypes and outdated assumptions. Autism (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental difference that impacts communication, social interaction, sensory processing, routines, and emotional regulation — but it is not a disease, not caused by parenting, and not something that needs to be “fixed.”

We talk about the everyday behaviors families often notice, including sensory sensitivities, stimming, rigidity, meltdowns, repetitive behaviors, social communication differences, and intense interests. More importantly, we explain why these behaviors happen, how they relate to nervous system regulation, and how understanding autism helps caregivers respond with compassion instead of frustration.

This video also explores the difference between meltdowns vs tantrums, the strengths commonly seen in autistic individuals, and how acceptance creates the foundation for meaningful skill development. When we understand that autism is a spectrum with different strengths and support needs, we shift from trying to change the child to supporting the child.

At Whole Spectrum ABA, we believe in supporting autistic children through safety, trust, skill building, and identity-affirming care. Autism is different — not defective — and understanding is the first step toward helping children feel capable, regulated, and understood.
